ReplyDeleteOne of our traditions has become picking up the pecans in the yard. It seems rather simplistic and necessary (since they are everywhere) but we have so much fun doing it!!

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories is making applesauce. It was messy, but fun. I love the smell of freshly made applesauce but mostly love to eat it!
ReplyDeleteWe used to go pick apples every fall, we'd always throw the cores at each other.

My favorite apple memory is of making my grandpa's amazing apple pies from scratch in my grandma's kitchen! It was the only thing he ever cooked and they all turned out utterly scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteI posted an apple pie recipe on the Love The Pie facebook page.
ReplyDeleteGrowing up I used to love to go to Apple Hill, a huge orchard with many other activities and places to shop.

Our biggest fall tradition (and yest this is weird) was leaf sledding. We lived on top of a steep hill and we had these gaudy vinyl porch furniture cushions. The trees were pretty thick and huge, so the ground would be several inches thick with leaves. So we would hop on the cushions after every light rain and slide down the steep slope. hpb157@yahoo.com

ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite memories is picking apples with my family when we were on vacation. A couple had offered free apples from their orchard if you would come pick them. We came, filled, up a bag, and they were so yummy!

I've always been intimidated by making apple pie so usually make Apple Crisp instead in the fall. I should just get brave and try it since the work is half done with the Pillsbury pie crusts. I also love walks in the crisp autumn air to look at all the beautiful fall colors.

ReplyDeleteA few months after our marriage, my husband and I really went crazy over apple picking. We started at BYU-I orchard. We knew you had to pay, so we took them to the lady to be weighed. She gave them to us for free. Then we got a list of people who were giving apples away for free. We drove all around the area for a few weeks picking apples. It was so much fun. We gave a lot away and made some gourmet things. YUM! We still have some apple butter we're trying to use up.
ReplyDeleteFavorite filling:
ReplyDelete7 cups chopped & peeled apples
2 C sugar
1/4 C flour
2 tsp cinnamon
Dash nutmeg
( I make bars w/ this instead of pie...so good!)
I left a recipe on love the pie's fb page.
