I am sure that you have all heard a lot about the earthquake in Hati over the last couple of days. Hearing about the millions of people affected by the earthquake has really put things in perspective for me.
It is so easy for me to get caught up in my own little world. I want to save money for school. I want to save money on groceries. I am tired from a long day at work. There are a lot of 'I s' in there- and they are all really blessings that I have. I have money in a savings account, I have food to eat, I have a job... I have a lot of things that many people don't. What can I do to show my gratitude for the things God has blessed me with?
Help for Hati Drive
I am participating, along with a group of bloggers, in a Help for Hati Drive. We would like to encourage you to join us in helping those affected by the earthquake. There are many ways to give and help. It does not have to be something big to make a difference. Here are a few suggestions:
American Red Cross
www.redcross.org- you can make an online donation or
The Red Cross is also receiving money though a third party mobile fundraising effort sponsored by Mobile Accord. Mobile donors can text “Haiti” to 90999 to send a ten dollar donation to the Red Cross. The funds will go to support the Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints Humanitarian Services
lds.org
Here you can donate to the humanitarian services of the church. This is my favorite way to donate. Since this is a service based organization, I know that 100% of the funds will go to humanitarian aid. You can go here to see the current humanitarian projects in Hati.
Your Chance to Give
If you have done something to help those in Hati, let me know! Post about it on your blog and leave a link below. Inspire others to reach out to those in need.
For each person who blogs about what they specifically did to help the people in Hati and leave a link below by January 21, 2010, my husband and I will personally donate $0.25 to the LDS Humanitarian Services. If you do not have a blog, leave a comment below. We hope to hear a lot of stories, so let us know what you have done!
If you have blogged about what you specifically have done please link below, then go to Money Saving Mom to find a list of other participating blogs that you can link to. She will have a list of participating bloggers who are donating something for each link.
